The Plains and Prairie Potholes LCC technical committee held a three-day workshop in Bismarck, North Dakota from August 23-25, 2011 with a primary goal of developing a process that can be used to identify and prioritize science needs from the perspective of land, resource, and conservation decision-making.

Outcomes and Agreements

  • The Chair and Vice Chair positions should rotate among different sectors (federal government, state government, NGOs, Tribes), but need not always include a federal entity serving in one of these positions.
  • The Steering Committee recommended a smaller core Science Working Group; its membership should be directed by the key areas of science, or science systems, that the Steering Committee identifies as important.

The Gulf Coastal Plains & Ozarks Landscape Conservation Cooperative Steering Committee traditionally meets two times per year face to face: in the spring for an annual retreat and in the fall, in conjunction with the Southeast Association of Fish & Wildlife Agencies meeting.  Below we have catalogued the background notebook materials, in chronological order, that were prepared for Steering Committee members for each meeting, as well as the notes from each meeting.

• The group identified changes to the draft Governance Documents.

• The group agreed that the Steering Committee should have approximately 20 participants and agreed to a list of entities to invite to the Steering Committee

• The group acknowledged the Scoping Team’s lack of representation from Mexico, tribes, and some states as well as a lack of expertise in cultural resources and the need to engage these entities/interests.
