In 2016, a consortium of six Alaska state and federal agencies partnered with the USGS's 3DEP program to acquire Lidar data on the outer Kuskokwim Delta. Lidar data is used to create elevation maps for very flat areas. Woolpert Government Solutions Market was tasked to acquire Lidar data covering over 1600 square miles of the Yukon and Kuskokwim River Deltas in Western Alaska, one of the flattest and most vulnerable regions in the state.

The western Corn Belt is a regional hotspot for cropland expansion and grassland loss. To gain insights into these processes, a team from South Dakota State University collected data on farm operators and their land use decisions in eastern ND and SD through a mail survey. Overall, 40% of operators converted grassland to cropland between 2004-14, with a converted area equal to 5.1% of surveyed farm acreage.
